Be Better Than Yesterday
If I could share one lesson that has shaped my journey more than any other, it would be this:
Be Better Than Yesterday.
Not better than your teammate.
Not better than your opponent.
Not better than someone on social media.
Better than the person you were yesterday.
In a world that constantly encourages comparison, this mindset has helped me stay focused on what truly matters: growth.
The Problem With Comparison
As athletes, students, and leaders, we are surrounded by comparisons.
Who has the higher ranking?
Who scored more points?
Who has better grades?
Who has more followers?
Who received the scholarship?
Who got the opportunity?
Comparison can be motivating at times, but it can also become exhausting.
No matter how successful you become, there will always be someone ahead of you in some area of life.
If your happiness depends on being ahead of everyone else, you'll spend your life chasing something you'll never fully catch.
That's why I learned to shift my focus.
Instead of asking:
"Am I better than them?"
I started asking:
"Am I better than I was yesterday?"
That question changed everything.
Small Improvements Create Big Results
Most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a day.
But they underestimate what they can accomplish in a year.
Success rarely happens overnight.
Championships aren't won in a single practice.
Great grades aren't earned through one night of studying.
Strong character isn't built in a single decision.
Growth happens through small daily improvements.
One extra rep.
One extra page.
One better decision.
One more act of discipline.
One more positive choice.
These improvements may seem insignificant in the moment.
But over time, they compound into extraordinary results.
The Power of Consistency
People often ask about motivation.
The truth is, motivation comes and goes.
Some days you'll feel inspired.
Other days you won't.
That's why success depends more on consistency than motivation.
Consistency means doing what needs to be done even when you don't feel like doing it.
Training when you're tired.
Studying when you'd rather relax.
Staying disciplined when shortcuts seem easier.
The people who improve the most are not always the most talented.
They are often the most consistent.
Every day, they take another step forward.
Even if it's a small one.
Progress Over Perfection
One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting for perfection.
They want the perfect plan.
The perfect opportunity.
The perfect circumstances.
The perfect moment to begin.
But perfection doesn't exist.
Progress does.
You don't need to have everything figured out.
You just need to take the next step.
Some days you'll make mistakes.
Some days you'll fall short.
Some days you'll fail.
That's part of growth.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is progress.
If you're learning, adapting, and improving, you're moving in the right direction.
What This Means To Me
As an athlete, I've experienced victories and defeats.
I've won tournaments.
I've lost matches.
I've achieved goals.
I've fallen short of others.
Through all of it, one lesson remains constant:
Every experience is an opportunity to improve.
After a win, I ask:
"What can I do better next time?"
After a loss, I ask:
"What can I learn from this?"
Both questions lead to growth.
Because growth isn't determined by the outcome.
It's determined by your response.
Beyond Tennis
The principle of being better than yesterday extends far beyond sports.
It applies in school.
Can you learn something new today?
It applies in leadership.
Can you serve others more effectively today?
It applies in relationships.
Can you show more kindness today?
It applies to personal development.
Can you become a stronger version of yourself today?
The specific goal may change.
The principle remains the same.
Keep improving.
Keep learning.
Keep growing.
The Mikatensity Mindset
At the heart of Mikatensity is a simple belief: Greatness isn't achieved in a single moment.
It's built through daily choices.
Every day presents an opportunity.
An opportunity to improve your mindset.
An opportunity to strengthen your habits.
An opportunity to serve others.
An opportunity to grow.
You don't need a dramatic change overnight.
You just need consistent improvement over time.
Because small improvements repeated daily become extraordinary achievements.
One Question
At the end of each day, I try to ask myself one simple question:
"Was I better today than I was yesterday?"
Not perfect.
Not finished.
Not where I ultimately want to be.
Just better.
If the answer is yes, then the day was a success.
And if the answer is no, tomorrow provides another opportunity.
Because growth is a journey.
Not a destination.
And every day gives us a chance to take another step forward.
One improvement.
One lesson.
One decision.
One day at a time.
That's the power of Mikatensity.
That's the power of growth.
And that's what it means to be better than yesterday.
